GROMTEST WAS SICK!

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010 - in GENERAL NEWS, SEA ISLE NEWS.

Brian Heritage is the man to thank for this yearly event that is all about the groms!

Quiksilvers Gromtest comp went off! The surf was waist high and clean with light off-shore winds making it a perfectly contestable day for the event! Quiksilver rolled up with the tail end of  the “Gotta Make a Right to Go Left” NJ tour with athletes, Reef McIntosh, Mark Richards, Frankie Walsh, Lisa Anderson, Kira Shepard, Chris Eaves, and Balaram Stack. The Quik team was on the Mic commentating with East Coast team manager, Matt Kechele, while Heritage Surf Shop owner and event coordinator Brian Heritage held things down and ran a smooth event just in time to escape the Tornado ridden band of T-storms that beat on the Jersey shore sunday evening! It was unreal!

Groms were ripping in and out of the water! The day was filled with surfing of course, but the Quiksilver crew made sure to have interesting ways to give away free stuff! The Groms were rolling in the sand, competing in eating contest, pretty much going nuts for Quik schwagg and autographs from the traveling pros! Closing down the last heat was mother nature her self, tornado warnings and all!

The finalist made it back to the surf shop for awards, and word on the street is Rebecca McDermott, who while running back to the store with 4x World champ, and East Coast Legend, Lisa Anderson was given Lisa’s own, hand shaped Al Merrick Dumpster Diver (surfboard)!!!! Needless to say Rebecca was floored and it just goes to show how down to earth, and respectable a role model the queen of surfing really is.

Billy McGarry made some loud impressions to take the win in the Runtz division. Perry Siganos edged out the boys to claim his title, Cassidy McClain won the Roxy Girls and took a shot at the boys as well, making the semi finals in that division. The Quik team loved her ambition and competitive drive, that almost had her in two finals! Chris Kelly walked with the Jrs. win, including a free flight to the Caribbean paradise Barbados! He’ll be barrel hunting at Soup Bowls this winter for sure!!

All in all, a great event, thanks to all the families who came out! Congrats to all the groms, cuz if your surfing, you’re all winners!!!

Quik Give-Aways all Day!!

Surfing wasn't the only contest!
